5.0 out of 5 starsThe Answer To NO GNATs flying around the house a few days after purchase

It is not that these are organic bananas. It is in the way these are handled after collection by the grower. These are washed as all other fruit is, but then these have their stems covered in a melted plastic or hot natural paraffin wax. This seals the gnat eggs deposited by adult gnats, starving them of oxygen and unable to develope.
I suppose just cutting off the large multi-joint stem portion would accomplish the same end result. For now the generic bananas are close in price, but without this benefit; so organics are a better deal.
My cat is not happy; she likes chasing down any invaders. If they stay outside, that is fine. If they come on to her turf their hours are numbered.
