How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat when higher output power is needed
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 20, 2023
I have an acrylic model that includes about 20 LED bulbs where each bulb has six very bright LED chips. The lights are powered through a standard USB-A connector and cable. The supplier suggests using a typical mobile device USB charging adapter. However, when I used an iPhone power block, it overheated fairly rapidly and then failed to keep the bulbs illuminated. I then tried a higher power output adapter rated as 20W. It, too, got very hot but not to the point of failing. Then I purchased this 65W adapter. It gets only warm when used with this model when even being on for hours. So if you need a high power output adapter to either continuously power some device or charge a rapid-charge device, this should work for you.

3.0 out of 5 starsWorks great... except with MagSafe 3
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 30, 2022
First the (slightly) bad: Just got the charger and was hoping it would be the perfect travel charger and it seems like it would be, unless you plan to use MagSafe 3. For some reason the 65-100W PD port will not work with the MagSafe cable - it does not recognize it as being plugged in at all. Double checked the MagSafe cable in the Apple charger and it still works. Then I got the bright idea of plugging it into the 18W USBC port on the Amazon charger just for kicks - strangely it works there but obviously that's not enough to charge the battery. Then I decided to try USBC only as I also have a USBC power cable for my monitor: that charges the MacBook in either Amazon charger port (and the system identifies it as 100W and 18W respectively)... so I'm not sure why the high power port won't work with MagSafe and I guess I'll need to get another USBC high power cable which is kind of disappointing, I had planned on charging via the monitor on my desk and using this with the MagSafe for around the house and travel (simpler cable solution at the desk and more likely to want the safety of MagSafe anywhere that isn't my desk). Maybe I got a dud but it's certainly strange; my understanding is MagSafe is supposed to work with any USBC charger, and that seems to be the case with the other port.

Ah well, here's the good: 100W 4 port charger! I've seen a bunch of questions as to whether this actually charges at 100W or not - I'm happy to say based on the MacOS System Report, it does! The pictures show 100W when this is the only thing plugged in, then when I plug my iPhone into the 18W port the second picture shows it drops to 65W just as the description would lead you to believe. Since I have the base MacBook Pro 14" this means I can basically charge at full speed with the other 3 ports of the charger powering other devices - and for someone with the higher consumption chips they could power just the laptop at 100W if they had some serious work to do and just use the other ports overnight. One last thing to note - the switch to 65W occurs when another port is drawing power, not simply plugged in; this means you can leave all your cables plugged in and so long as only the high powered port is actually connected to a device you'll get 100W - then plug your phone/whatever else in at night and it'll drop to 65W when you're not using it so it won't be needing as much power to recharge overnight anyway.

All in all, if I hadn't been planning on using the MagSafe 3 cable with it I'd be pretty happy, since I was I'm a bit disappointed but it will certainly still work and is one of the few 4 port high power chargers available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems like level two charging speed.

I finally found a cable and charging block that is able to keep my iPhone 14 Pro Max at the 100% level. Any other USB-A lighting setup couldn’t pass the 80% mark. I’m about to order more of this USB-C setup and toss the USB-A cords away. The cord that I used with this block is the ASIN B09KSZ6MSJ since just received my order and hadn’t had enough time to test them out.

I have used it to charge several Samsung phones, Samsung and SoundCore buds, a 2021 Kindle, and a 65W Lenovo Thinkpad laptop. No problems and fast charges. But the retractable plugs and the respective mechanism seem somewhat flimsy.

I wish it was a little smaller, but this block is very powerful. I've had it for a few months now and it still works really well. Would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful for size & cost

We use the Tripp-Lite version (model U280-W04-100C2G) at work. When I found this identical charger under Amazon Basics, I compared specs and found it is the same unit but at a better price. Not sure how many other vendors are putting their name on this. I use the Tripp-Lite at work to charge all my devices - a HP laptop, iPad Pro, iPhone 11, and other USB-A devices, sometimes all four ports are in use. My Amazon Basics 100W four port charger doesn't see quite as much use at home, but I fully expect it to serve just as well since it appears to be a duplicate under a different vendor name.

Both chargers display various agency markings including FCC and UL. The UL certification for this charger is listed under E472287 as model B087MDYP24 as found online. Beware of purchasing & using electrical appliances that are not UL listed, there's a lot of them out there.

USB-C PD (Power Delivery) is a game changer. Be sure to read up about it and consider using it for all your future charging needs.

So far, this one is a winner. No problems after several months of use, UL listed, compact size, powerful, multiple ports and a decent price. I'll update if there's any problems down the road.

This was a replacement for my old low wattage usb charger that wasn't fast or worked with the NANAMI charger.

This Amazon Basics 65W charger does both with enough watts to fast charge and run the wireless NANAMI charger. Works great!!

Amazon Basics 68W Two-Port GaN Wall Charger with 1 USB-C and 1 USB-A Port
My son wanted to carry a single charger for his laptop using USB-C Power Delivery, and other devices via a regular USB-A port. And I wanted the charger to be safety tested (e.g. UL or ETL listed). I have found and bought 2 similar chargers that do this:

1. Bluefeel USB C Charger PD 45W Charger Power Delivery, model S-TR-141
https://smile.amazon.com/Charger-Delivery-Dynamic-Detect-MacBook/dp/B09DW6P8ZY/
(10/16/21 updated the Amazon link; old link was dead; Bluefeel product appears the same but now no reviews are shown)
Pros (compared to the other charger):
*Economical (only about half the price)

2. This Amazon Basics 68W Two-Port GaN Wall Charger, model B087MDT515 (update 10/15/21: this product appears to be gone from Amazon)
Pros (compared to other charger):
*More powerful (rated 60W max if only the USB-C port is used, 3 Amps at 20 Volts)
*Has an LED that tells you if it's plugged into a live outlet
*Made in Vietnam (an advantage if you think we should diversify our suppliers away from that other country we have a huge trade deficit with)

Both chargers:
*Are UL listed (for safety)
*Get only slightly warm to the touch when in use, ~20 degrees F above ambient temperature
*Can charge a HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 laptop
*Can charge a HP Elitebook 850 G6 laptop
*Can charge an Apple MacBook Pro 13" 2017 model (added to updated review 5 Apr 2021)
*Are versatile with both USB-A and USB-C charging ports
*Travel well with a plug that folds flat, and can operate off 100-240 VAC

Charging the most power-hungry laptop I have, the Elitebook 850 G6 (with a 15" screen), using a USB power meter in-line I have seen the Bluefeel provide 2.05 A at 20 V (41W, ~5W short of it max rating), and the Basics 68W charge at 2.75 A at 20 V (55W, also 5W short of it's max rating). In both cases the chargers could recharge a depleted battery while the laptop was in use, though obviously the Basics should be able to recharge it faster with it's higher power output.

Note the Elitebook 850 G6 comes with a 65 Watt non-USB charger, but the Bluefeel 45 W USB-C charger was able to power it just fine.

If you plug into the USB-A port to charge a phone, I've seen the Basics 68W USB-C output drop about 0.5 A (~10 W) from 2.75 A to about 2.25 A. This is expected as the back of the charger shows two sets of specs: one for 2 outputs in use, USB C and A, and another spec for only 1 output in use, USB C.

I recommend both of these chargers. The Bluefeel costs a lot less and is fine if you don't have a very power hungry laptop (if you're not sure of your power needs, you could buy the Bluefeel and return it if it can't charge your laptop). The Amazon Basics 68 W may be better if money is no object and you need to have a higher power charger.

I urge everyone to only buy electronics that plug into the wall if their SAFETY has been tested by a reputable lab, e.g. products that are UL or ETL listed. Any design flaw in something connected to 120 VAC could turn it into a fire hazard.

I used a USB-C to USB-C 3 Amp ("60 W") 6' fast charging cable that I purchased separately.

I will not rate a good product over 4 stars unless I've used it a long time, so if the Basics 68W still works well in a year or two I'll try to bump the rating up to 5 stars. P.S. I'm an electrical engineer.

This will charge a surface book 2, but only if you aren't running things like power hungry games and such. If you do run them with this plugged in, it drains the battery slowly. Otherwise, it works awesome charging my phone and laptop in a pinch!
