How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

4.0 out of 5 starsA reliable beast of a power bank but pricey
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on March 21, 2023
TL:DR - Great unit, but overpriced. 65W output is misleading (a 45W port and a 20W port), but unless you frequently find your laptop running out of juice on-the-go, itโ€™s more than capable of meeting most needs.

Iโ€™m an Anker devotee. This marks my 4th power bank from them (which I still have and all work great) and I wonโ€™t stray from the brand anytime soon. Itโ€™s an exceptional unit with a couple caveats.

Most notable is the price; itโ€™s very expensive compared to other brands with comparable specs. I got it on sale after the 535 was recalled, for just about $15 more than paid for the 535. I would not have bought this at full price, but Anker did not have a suitably-specโ€™d unit at the same price point as the 535.

If price isnโ€™t an object I cannot recommend it enough. Itโ€™s the first power bank Iโ€™ve owned capable of charging my laptop. Thatโ€™s a nice touch.

Itโ€™s a big boy, but not too big you cannot take it with you most anywhere. I bring it around all the time, and it is no more cumbersome than some predecessors.

One thing I do miss - although I donโ€™t know how well it worked - is the dual-port recharging ability. As far as I know, only the outermost USB-C port works to input power, and it would have been nice if both ports could serve for input and output.

Another thing, as others have mentioned, is that 65W is misleading. One port will output 45W and the other 20W so arguably one might be able to make the 65W claim, but I donโ€™t see any way this can provide 65W to a single device. I donโ€™t need that much power, really - these are for power in a pinch not really as a primary source of power - but I get why the complaint exists.

My only other gripe is minor - Ankerโ€™s mesh sleeves used to fit their power banks snugly. Now theyโ€™re VERY loose around the unit. I am using the sleeve from the old 535 on this and it fits perfectly, just as the old models used to. The one that comes with this finds the bank positively swimming around inside.

All in all, Iโ€™m glad to have this, but would have waited for a 535 alternative at a better price point had this not been on sale. It has a few downsides but Anker remains as reliable as ever.

3.0 out of 5 starsGetting very hot when charging.
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on March 24, 2023
Charges my iPhone and MacBook Pro 2022. But scared to charge when not home. Gets hot to the touch. Called and had to jump threw hoops to have it exchanged. Not worth it. But now they know itโ€™s documented and I guess itโ€™s safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy but good when you need repeated charges
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on March 29, 2023

Iโ€™ve always purchased Anker power banks. They last for years (until loaned to child who manages to lose it!). This one isnโ€™t for carrying around on a daily basis because it is just too heavy. But if youโ€™re going on a trip or perhaps you need to charge multiple times or multiple devices, this is the perfect power bank.

I did have concerns about charging my iPhone in the port that has a laptop icon over it. And I also had concerns about it being too powerful and damaging my Apple Watch or AirPods. But this is the response I received from the Anker: please know it will not damage your phone if you charge it (your iPhone) with the USB C port marked for the 45W laptop, since the charging voltage will vary based on the needs of the device.

And if the trickle charging is not open, it will not charge your Apple Watch or iPod, and there is no damage.

Please know trickle charging mode is designed to provide optimized charging to low-power devices such as earphones, Bluetooth speakers, and other accessories. To activate, press the power button twice or press and hold for 2 seconds until the LED indicator turns green.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beast of a power bank
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on February 4, 2023
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
This was for a work project that was originally designed for the cheap 12 and 5 volt lithium ion batteries, but because of space constraints it was decided to switch to USB Power Delivery and power everything from one battery pack. As such I needed a nice big chonky power bank, and when it comes to performance, reliability, and bang for the buck, it's hard to beat Anker. And since this thing is designed to charge laptops, I was confident it would give me at least a couple of hours through a decoy adapter. It's not like I'm using enough LEDs to light up an aircraft hangar.

This thing is capable of cranking out 20 volts at 3.25 amps, which is good enough to power my Thinkpad if I wanted to. But the most the buck converters in my project could tolerate was 16 volts or so, so I set the decoys to 15. That would let me run longer thinner wires if necessary without too much power loss.

This is about a half inch longer than the aforementioned 12 volt batteries, and even though Power Delivery can be a bit of a pain to deal with as a DIY maker, it was totally worth it here.

One gripe I do have is that the USB C port can drop to 5 volts if a device is plugged into the USB A port first. No problem, just connect the PD device first and Bob's your uncle. I could see myself using this to keep a laptop going, but a more portable device like a Nintendo Switch or a Steam Deck would be super awkward unless there's a table nearby. This is definitely too chonky for pants pockets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use this at work

Ok so i needed a new power bank for work as im a contractor that relies on their phone alot, so i don't always get time to let it sit and charge in the work van. I was tad skeptical because it only mentions apple products being compatible and i have an android but rest assured this will work with android products as well. I have charged my phone a dozen times since owning this and this beast still has a full charge. While this will fit in your pockets be warned she's a little big and you'll know it's there. Overall great product with very little negatives thus far, i highly recommend if you enjoy traveling or work where charging is difficult.

5.0 out of 5 stars Large, but amazing!

This thing is pretty sweet, but it's a bit bigger than I expected... but it's great! Aside from looking the business (I bought the white), it charged my M1 macbook from 12% to 100% in 2 hours or less, and it still had 50% of charging power left in it. That's bonkers! I got it on sale at $60 when the original price was $100. I'm happy as a lark! Will definitely purchase again if the sale comes around again!

Really does the trick -- charges fast. Only change I would suggest is using a different color plug on the IN/OUT port so it really stands out.
